While driving and trying to change lane, or merge to a new lane or view pedestrians and cyclist on same road, it is very important to check for your blind sports, to ensure safety of other road users.

Quickly turn your head to the side and slightly over your shoulder, while your body is steady, to check your side mirror to see the area next to your car that your mirror doesn’t cover.

Speed, road conditions, and driver fatigue all increase the distance a vehicle needs to come to a complete stop. Therefore, be conscious of Long Stopping Distance. To ensure safety, maintain a sufficient following distance, brake early when necessary, and understand that high speeds drastically increase stopping distance and the potential severity of a crash.

For safety of all road users, it is important to make a wide turn carefully, especially when you have a large truck for Project executions.

This careful wide turn requires, slowing down before turning, signaling early, and maintaining focus on the direction you want to go.

Constant awareness of your surroundings while driving and adjusting your speed based on traffic, weather, and road conditions are key to maintaining a safe speed. A safe speed is a key principle of defensive driving, and it helps reduce risk of accidents.

Therefore, you must maintain a safe speed at all time.

  • Prepare your vehicle before you set out for any project.
  • Key your phones away and avoid multitasking while driving.
  • Be conscious of your environment all the time and ensure that your mind and your thoughts are on the road and be focused on the task at hand.

As a Trucker, you must always use your vehicle signals appropriately for any change in direction, lane merges, backing up, to alert other road users of your intentions and ensure safety.

  • Follow all official traffic signs and signals
  • Drive withing recommended speed limit
  • Yield to other drivers and pedestrians
  • Don’t always claim the right of ways, but drive defensively.

To prevent damages to project items, ensure safety of project items and the vehicle, firmly secure the items using appropriate equipment and tools such as ratchet straps, bungee cords, ropes, cargo nets attached to your vehicle anchor where applicable.

Use chocks, cradles, and wedges to secure project items and prevent items from shifting or rolling during moving.

Be strategic in loading project items into your van or trucks by distributing items wight evenly. Place all heavy project items at the bottom of the load to prevent damage to other light items and maintain vehicle stability.

Separate breakable or fragile items from heavy and solid items and securely the items with bubble wrap, foam sheets or packing papers.
